AA & AS Degree Requirements

Associate of Arts Degree

AA students must complete 60 college credits to complete the degree

  • 36 of these credits must be general education credits distributed across five subject area categories: Social Science, Natural Science, Mathematics, Communications, and Humanities
  • 24 elective credits should be selected in consultation with an advisor who will assist with selecting the college credits most advantageous to the student’s educational goals
  • First-time-in-college students in Fall 2015-2016 and thereafter, each student must choose:
    • One core course in each area and one general course in each area, OR
    • Two core courses in each area
  • The Gordon Rule (6A10.030) requires all Florida college students to complete at least 12 hours of writing courses at the ENC 1101 level and higher and to make at least a “C” in each course AND to complete at least six (6) semester hours of mathematics coursework at the level of college algebra or higher. For the purposes of this rule, a grade of C or higher shall be considered successful completion
  • Civic Literacy competency
  • Modern Language Requirement
  • SLS 1101 Orientation
  • 2.0 GPA Cumulative 
  • Graduate Exit Exam

Associate of Science Degree

The programs of study (curricula) for the Associate in Science degree include many courses that are transferable to Florida colleges and universities. Each AS degree contains a minimum of 15 hours of general education courses, all of which are transferable. All AS degree students must complete the required English and mathematics courses with a grade of “C” or higher. Courses designated [O] in the “course description” section of this catalog may not transfer. To complete an AS degree, students should complete all courses listed on the Academic Pathway. Interested students should check with Student Affairs or a departmental academic advisor for additional information and assistance.
